Parity

Upsets and shockers. What is an upset? Kansas City beating Pittsburgh at home, with a fieldgoal?. Oakland defeating the on again/off again Cincinnati Bengals? Roger Goodell wants you to believe there’s parity in the NFL. And maybe there is a little bit of evenness in this sport of champions. Hardcore fans of dominant teams want their football clubs to routinely destroy small market underfinanced opponents every Sunday evening, just to quince their sick and twisted thirst for pigskin blood. Now what’s the fun in that?

But you probably won’t have to worry about that next year, when the NFL goes MLB style. This is due to no negotiations being made toward a new collective bargaining agreement between league owners and the players union. Not having a salary cap is a dream come true for owners like Jerry Jones and the like, who’ve been salivating on this idea; Being able to win, and all you’ll need is a little bit of money. Well, a lotta bit of money.

Who are we to judge how a man spends his hard earned cash. Everybody wants to win. It’s in our nature as human beings.

Football purists say it will kill the small market teams. Last time I checked though, every person or persons collectively who owns an NFL team is a billionaire. My advice to those guys is start spending some damn money.

In retrospect, maybe Pittsburgh and Cincinnati were really just exhausted from that epic battle they had against each other last week. Or maybe, just maybe, with the proper readjustments Oakland made with their quarterback option, or the fact that the Chief’s head chief Todd Haley can call some good plays, these teams are a little better than what so many of these so-called football analyst(including myself) think.
