by Heartless James McNeil
It's official. He's gone. Cleveland fans knew this was going down months ago. Dan Gilbert knew this was going to happen years ago. LeBron James is now a card carrying member of the Miami Heat, along with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
Kudos to the enraged owner of the Cavs with his "prepared" open letter on the team website. Sour grapes know no bounds. Even for a billionaire.
But why all the uproar? Surely, the Cleveland management didn't wan't King James to rule their court. Maybe they rolled the dice once too many times aqiuring journeymen free agents instead of paying top dollar for bonafide studs.
Maybe they should have replaced their questionable coach/cheerleader Mike Brown last season. Bedamned if everyone liked him. We're here to win.
Or maybe LeBron just could not resist the allure of South Beach, halftime routs, and guarentees of multi-ring ownerships.
Or maybe he just wanted to win. Something that can never be done in Cleveland. No matter what Mad Max Gilbert says. No one had to tell Art Modell twice.
I have to aplaud LeBron and Bosh for leaving their established bases of operation. Not an easy task. Especially for the Akron Hammer. But all wounds heal in time.
Instead of all the sports writers screaming cowardice to our heroes for not being solo egomaniacs on separate mediocre teams, they should embrace these young pioneers for their selfless sacrifice of forgoing max out contracts in the spirit of superfriend-like teamwork to obtain elusive NBA gold.
Years from now, the sports historians will marvel at these three amigo body of work.
Enjoy the Ice.
